About the Living Room Cinema

Quality films in intimate surroundings. A welcoming home from home, at the heart of your community.

An independent cinema, but not as you would expect. A little bolt hole in plain sight; we invite you to experience the unique charm of The Living Room.

Hand-picked films ranging from the latest blockbusters to the classics, in homely surroundings furnished with a touch of countryside elegance and luxury. We care about our surroundings, our experience, our guests and our community. A local cinema like you’ve never experienced before.

The Living Room Cinema is a dynamic new cinema company, revolutionising the cinema-going experience. We were started in 2016 with one aim: to provide smaller provincial locations with a quality cinema offer.

We transform iconic buildings and breathe life back into High Streets, creating a cultural and entertainment hub offering so much more than simply the latest films.

Combining a quality film with a casually luxurious social space, coffee and cocktails, The Living Room Cinema pairs a single auditorium with a large, lounge-like foyer area. This all-day café transforms into a cocktail and wine bar in the evening. Combining all essential ingredients for a super night out, we aim to bring the community together and re-establish cinema at its heart.

We opened our doors in Liphook on the 22nd April 2022 to a fantastic reception from the local community. Our next project, The Living Room Cinema Chipping Norton, is underway, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring the magic of cinema to another small community.

Our Cinema and Café-Bar

  • How many seats does the cinema have?
We have 61 luxury seats: 45 individual armchairs and 8 double-seat sofas. These seats were designed specifically for us by a manufacturer in Belfast and upholstered in our own choice of beautifully soft fabric. Each seat has its own individual table for drinks, and plenty of legroom.
  • Are you wheelchair accessible?
Yes. We have two wheelchair spaces in the auditorium, a wheelchair accessible restroom and the whole café-bar area is on the ground floor. Please see the ‘Accessibility’ tab for more information.
  • What films do you show?
Our programme comprises an exciting mix of current releases, age-old classics, and “The Living Room Presents…” – our top picks of something a little bit different: foreign language, art house, documentaries. We have family screenings every weekend, including our “Little Living Room” performance on Saturday mornings, parent and baby screenings, and show the best in Event Cinema – Opera, ballet, music, exhibitions and sport on the big screen. We will also be hosting special Q&As with film makers, preview screenings for our members and workshops for our younger audience members.
  • I’m still a bit nervous about visiting the cinema. Is it safe?
Absolutely. We are a small, intimate venue and our capacity in both the auditorium and the café-bar is capped at a low number. We will of course adhere to any future Government guidance regarding social distancing (our clever box office system is able to automatically leave spaces between bookings) and other safety measures. We have vigorous cleaning and sanitation protocols.
  • Can I hire the cinema?
Absolutely! Whether you are a business looking for somewhere to host a company meeting or fancy hiring out the cinema for a private screening, we welcome private hires, whether during the day or in the evening. We have full conferencing facilities and you can even request to see your favourite film (subject to availability; extra charges may apply). It is possible to hire the auditorium on its own, or the auditorium plus café space. You can find more information in the ‘Venue Hire’ box below.
  • Do you have to be a ticket holder to use the café? Of course not! If you fancy a light bite, coffee and a cake or a glass of wine in the evening, you are as welcome as our cinema guests. We are also open for take-aways.
  • Do you have parking? We do not have our own on-site parking, however, there are free car parks on the Midhurst Road and the Haslemere Road, both within 250m walking distance of the cinema.
  • What are your opening times? We are open daily from 9.30am until the last film of the day finishes (usually between 10.30pm and 10.45pm).

Tickets, Memberships and Gift Vouchers

  • How do I book tickets?
Tickets can be purchased here, on our website, on the Films page, or in person in the cinema.
  • Are tickets refundable?
Our tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable, except in extenuating circumstances. Please be careful when booking your tickets to ensure that you have booked the correct date, time and seat/s. In all cases, refunds and changes to bookings may not occur after the day of the showing.
  • I’d like to become a member!
Great! There are three different annual membership categories to choose from. Our Founder Memberships are limited in number and are for our most loyal supporters, offering the most perks. Premium membership is for film fans featuring unlimited cinema tickets, and our Standard membership offers members priced tickets in addition to a range of other benefits. You can purchase membership packages on our Membership page.
  • Do you have to be a member to visit?
Not at all! Our doors are open to everyone, however, if you become a member you will be able to take advantage of our members priced tickets and benefits.
  • How do I receive my membership card? Your membership is live as soon as you have completed your purchase. You can use it right away by selecting the member ticket type and entering your email address and surname on the next screen, then pop into the cinema to collect your membership card whenever is convenient for you. Once you have your membership card, you should bring this every time you visit the cinema, so that our team can scan it and apply your discounts.
  • Do you sell gift vouchers? Yes! Gift vouchers can be purchased online here with an e-voucher up to the value of £50. If you would like a physical gift voucher, or would like to purchase a higher value gift voucher, please come into the cinema to purchase and one of our team will set this up for you.
  • How do I redeem my gift voucher? Gift vouchers can be redeemed online using your unique code (found written on your voucher), or in person in the cinema.

Work With Us

  • I’d like to work for The Living Room Cinema. How do I go about this? Any new vacancies will be advertised on our News page, our social media pages, and on Indeed.
  • How else can I get involved?
There are plenty of ways to get involved with us! It is possible to become part of the fabric of the building forever by sponsoring a seat, with your name (or your company name) etched on a brass plaque and attached to one of our armchairs. We offer corporate membership packages for local businesses and are always open to new partnerships and collaborations.

We are a fully accessible venue, able to accommodate wheelchairs in the auditorium and throughout the café-bar. We have accessible toilets with baby changing facilities.

Our foyer is fitted with an infra-red loop and we show subtitled performances for audience members who are hard of hearing. We also have audio-description headsets for guests who are visually impaired.

We also run specific autism and dementia-friendly performances.
