About the Living Room Cinema

Quality films in intimate surroundings. A welcoming home from home, at the heart of the Liphook community.

An independent cinema, but not as you would expect. A little bolt hole in plain sight; we invite you to experience the unique charm of The Living Room.

Hand-picked films ranging from the latest blockbusters to the classics, in homely surroundings furnished with a touch of countryside elegance and luxury. We care about our surroundings, our experience, our guests and our community. A local cinema like you’ve never experienced before.

The Living Room Cinema is a dynamic new cinema company, revolutionising the cinema-going experience. We were started in 2016 with one aim: to provide smaller provincial locations with a quality cinema offer.

We transform iconic buildings and breathe life back into High Streets, creating a cultural and entertainment hub offering so much more than simply the latest films.

Combining a quality film with a casually luxurious social space, coffee and cocktails, The Living Room Cinema pairs a single auditorium with a large, lounge-like foyer area. This all-day café transforms into a cocktail and wine bar in the evening. Combining all essential ingredients for a super night out, we aim to bring the community together and re-establish cinema at its heart.

We will be opening our doors in Liphook at the start of 2022 and tickets for our opening programme will be ready to purchase six weeks beforehand.

  1. How many seats will the cinema have?
We will have 60 luxury seats: 45 individual armchairs and 8 double-seat sofas. These have been designed specifically for us by a manufacturer in Belfast and upholstered in our own choice of beautifully soft fabric. Each seat will have its own individual table for drinks, and plenty of leg room.
  2. Will you be wheelchair accessible?
Yes. There are wheelchair spaces in the auditorium and the whole café-bar area is on ground floor. We will be accessible to all – captioned and hard of hearing (audio described) performances will be scheduled, as well as autism friendly screenings.
  3. I’d like to work for The Living Room Cinema. How do I go about this?
We will be recruiting for a range of exciting positions – please check out current vacancies on our News page. Please note that you must be over 18.
  4. What films will you be showing?
Our programme will comprise of an exciting mix of current releases, age-old classics, and “The Living Room Presents…” – our top picks of something a little bit different: foreign language, art house, documentaries. We will have family screenings every weekend including a kids club performance first thing, parent and baby screenings, and show the best in Event Cinema – Opera, ballet, music, exhibitions and sport on the big screen. We will also be hosting special Q&As with film makers, preview screenings for our members and workshops for our younger audience members.
  5. I’m still a bit nervous about visiting the cinema. Will it be safe?
Absolutely. We are a small, intimate venue and our capacity in both the auditorium and the café-bar is capped at a low number. We will of course adhere to any current or future Government guidance regarding social distancing (our clever box office system will be able to automatically leave spaces between bookings) and other safety measures. We will have vigorous cleaning and sanitisation protocols.
  6. Can I hire the cinema?
Absolutely! Whether you are a business looking for somewhere to host a company meeting or fancy hiring out the cinema for a private screening, we welcome private hires, whether during the day or in the evening. We will have full conferencing facilities and you can even request to see your favourite film (subject to availability, and extra charges will apply). It will be possible to hire the auditorium on its own, or the auditorium plus café space. You can find out more information on the “Venue Hire” tab.
  7. When will I be able to book tickets?
Our opening programme will be on sale approximately 6 weeks before we open our doors. We will keep you updated regularly!
  8. I’d like to become a member!
Great! There are three different annual membership categories to choose from. Our Founder Memberships are limited in number and are for our most loyal supporters, offering the most perks. Premium membership is for film fans featuring unlimited cinema tickets, and our Standard membership offers members priced tickets in addition to a range of other benefits. You can purchase membership packages on our “Membership” page. Any memberships purchased in advance of the cinema opening will be valid for 12 months from the cinemas’ opening date.
  9. Do you have to be a member to visit?
Not at all! Our doors are open to everyone, however, if you become a member you will be able to take advantage of our members priced tickets and benefits.
  10. Will you have to be a ticket holder to use the café?
Not at all. If you fancy a light bite, coffee and a cake or a glass of wine in the evening, you are as welcome as our cinema guests. We will also be open for take-aways.
  11. Will you have parking? We will not have our own on-site parking, however, there are free car parks on the Midhurst Road and the Haslemere Road, both within 250m walking distance of the cinema.
  12. How else can I get involved?
There are plenty of ways to get involved with us, and as a community focused
cinema we welcome that! It is possible to become part of the fabric of the building forever by sponsoring a seat, with your name (or your company name) etched on a brass plaque and attached to one of our armchairs. We offer corporate membership packages for local businesses and are always open to new partnerships and collaborations.

We will be a fully accessible venue, able to accommodate wheelchairs in the auditorium and throughout the café-bar. We will have accessible toilets with baby changing facilities.

Our screen will be fitted with infra-red loops and we will show subtitled performances for audience members who are hard of hearing. We will also have audio-description facilities for guests who are visually impaired.

We will run specific autism and dementia-friendly performances on a regular basis.
