FAQ

Our Cinema and Café-Bar

How many seats does the cinema have? We have 61 luxury seats: 45 individual armchairs and 8 double-seat sofas. These seats were designed specifically for us by a manufacturer in Belfast and upholstered in our own choice of beautifully soft fabric. Each seat has its own individual table for drinks, and plenty of legroom.

Are you wheelchair accessible? Yes. We have two wheelchair spaces in the auditorium, a wheelchair accessible restroom and the whole café-bar area is on the ground floor. Please see the Accessibility page for more information.

What films do you show? Our programme comprises an exciting mix of current releases, age-old classics, and The Living Room Presents – our top picks of something a little bit different: foreign language, art house, documentaries. We have family screenings, including our Little Living Room performances on weekend mornings, parent and baby screenings, and show the best in Event Cinema – Opera, ballet, music, exhibitions and sport on the big screen. We also host special Q&As with film makers, preview screenings for our members and workshops for our younger audience members.

Do you show adverts and trailers? Is there an interval? Yes, we have adverts and trailers, just like other cinemas! There are usually 15 minutes of adverts and trailers before each film. There will never be an interval in our standard film screenings, but occasionally our Event Cinema screenings (Royal Opera House, National Theatre) will have an interval.

I’m still a bit nervous about visiting the cinema. Is it safe? Absolutely. We are a small, intimate venue and our capacity in both the auditorium and the café-bar is capped at a low number. We will of course adhere to any future Government guidance regarding social distancing (our clever box office system is able to automatically leave spaces between bookings) and other safety measures.

Can I hire the cinema? Absolutely! Whether you are a business looking for somewhere to host a company meeting or fancy hiring out the cinema for a private screening, we welcome private hires, both during the day or in the evening. We have full conferencing facilities and you can even request to see your favourite film (subject to availability; extra charges may apply). It is possible to hire the auditorium on its own, or the auditorium plus café space. You can find more information on the Private Hire page.

Do you have to be a ticket holder to use the café? Of course not! If you fancy a light bite, coffee and a cake or a glass of wine in the evening, you are as welcome as our cinema guests. We are also open for takeaways.

Do you have parking? We do not have our own on-site parking, however, there are free car parks on the Midhurst Road and the Haslemere Road, both within 250m walking distance of the cinema.

Do you have air-conditioning? We do! Both our café-bar and screen are air-conditioned for summer (and heated for winter), so you can be comfortable year-round.

What are your opening times? We are open daily from 9.30am until the last film of the day finishes (usually between 10.30pm and 10.45pm).

How can I contact you? Where possible, please come in and see us in person. Failing that, please email hello@thelivingroomcinema.co.uk. We do not have a phone number, so email is the best way to reach us if you are unable to pop in.

Work With Us

I’d like to work for The Living Room Cinema. How do I go about this? Any new vacancies will be advertised on our website, our social media pages, and on Indeed.

How else can I get involved? There are plenty of ways to get involved with us! It is possible to become part of the fabric of the building forever by sponsoring a seat, with your name (or your company name) etched on a brass plaque and attached to one of our armchairs. We offer corporate membership packages for local businesses and are always open to new partnerships and collaborations. If you'd like to speak to our team, email hello@thelivingroomcinema.co.uk and someone will be in touch!
