OUR STORY

The Living Room Cinema began its story in 2017 when Founder and CEO, Claire Beswick, decided to fulfil a lifelong ambition of opening her own cinema in her hometown of Liphook, Hampshire, a small town in a catchment area with no cinema on the doorstep. A cinema industry veteran with 20 years’ experience, Claire instinctively believed that small towns with no local cinema offering would see a cinema as an asset which would play a cornerstone role in their community.

Alongside Chairman Sir Rupert Gavin and co-director, award winning film producer Nicole Carmen-Davis, Claire shepherded The Living Room Cinema Liphook on its long journey to completion, pausing for 18 months during the pandemic. In April 2022 we finally opened the doors, with a star-studded charity gala screening of Downton Abbey: A New Era with cast and the director in attendance.

In the 21 months that the cinema has been open, we have welcomed over 100,000 guests and have been a finalist for The Big Screen Awards coveted “Cinema of the Year” award, receiving the Highly Commended award in 2023. We have achieved what we set out to do – provide a home from home for our community, even welcoming some regulars on a daily basis. We have hosted many special events ranging from private parties, Q&As with film making talent from in front of and behind the camera, wine tasting events, combining films with other activities such as wreath making and cheese and wine nights, our monthly film quiz and even yoga sessions in the foyer!

We are proud to serve the local community and have played a part in the high street regeneration, and aim to integrate on all levels whether that is stocking local produce, charity work, or providing local employment in our team that feels like a family.
